Fresh Start is honored to have Judge Ron Wilson as our speaker!
Ron Wilson is a nationally esteemed former Chief Magistrate Judge and judicial reformer with over two decades of experience advancing equitable justice through the courts, public service, and legal education. A visionary in therapeutic jurisprudence, Ronald has founded and led multiple specialty courts—including Veterans Courts, Domestic Violence Courts, Drug Courts, Mental Health Courts, and Homeless Courts—all designed to provide restorative pathways for individuals navigating trauma, substance use, and systemic barriers to reintegration. As Chief Magistrate for the City of South Tucson, Ronald not only presided over complex civil and criminal dockets but reimagined the court as a space for healing, dignity, and second chances. His leadership helped shape national conversations about judicial reform.
A recognized national leader within the American Bar Association (ABA), Ronald served as National Chair of the ABA Judicial Division’s Mental Health Courts Committee, 8th District Representative to the ABA Judicial Division Council, and Editorial Board Member for Judges’ Journal. At the state level, he was appointed to the Arizona Supreme Court’s Problem-Solving Courts Committee and served as faculty for the Arizona Judicial College.
Ronald further advanced Arizona’s judicial innovation by organizing and hosting the state’s first-ever Conference on Problem-Solving Courts. The landmark convening was held in partnership with the Center for Court Innovation, the American Bar Association, the Arizona Supreme Court, the State Bar of Arizona, the National Center for State Courts, and the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. The event brought together judges, legal scholars, and policymakers committed to expanding access to justice and modernizing the court system.
Judge Wilson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University and holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Northeastern University. He is originally from Springfield, Massachusetts.
